sometimes I go to the spa. I try to
swim, because for me it’s important to have a clear mind. I’m such
an energetic person and I need
exercise to relieve stress.”
MAKING LIFE
(AND WORK) FUN
After Bobbi Sheridan and Mike
Belschner founded their company, bobbi+mike, in Indianapolis
in 2006, the business grew so
quickly that it actually ran them,
says Bobbi, who soon made a
plan to rectify that.
“One day we had a very serious
heart-to-heart. We took a look at
our 80-plus hour work weeks and
decided something’s got to give,”
she says. “Since then, we’ve
refined our workflow, taken a few
less sessions, learned to say no
and learned the definition of ef-
ficiency. I remind myself daily that
in ten years I won’t remember
processing 100 extra images ev-
ery night but instead I’ll remember
not spending enough time living
life.” Bobbi and Mike met in the
darkroom at Indiana State Uni-
versity and married in late 2003.
Out of school, Mike worked as a
pilot and Bobbi at an ad agency,
also coaching the local color guard
on the side. “When they started
needing senior pictures, I volun-
teered,” Bobbi says. “One thing
led to another, and next thing
you know, I was shooting wed-
dings.” When the couple set up
bobbi+mike, it started a period of
hard work that took the business
beyond weddings and into family
photos and engagements, too. A

to keeping a happy marriage and a
thriving business: “Take days off.
It sounds obvious. It’s not.”
