Beauty Dish
PHOTOGRAPHY BY DIXIE DIXON
NEW JERSEY-BASED WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
VANESSA JOY DISHES ABOUT HER CAMERA-READY STYLE.
PIX: WHAT ARE YOU WEARING TODAY?
VANESSA JOY: I’m wearing a dress by Guess, Jessica
Simpson shoes and a Forever 21 necklace.
PIX: HOW DO YOU USUALLY DRESS FOR ASSIGNMENTS?
IS YOUR PRIORIT Y FASHION OR COMFORT?
VJ: Both are very important, but when
I’m working I have to put comfort first.
PIX: I LOVE YOUR CLUTCH, WHERE DID YOU
GET IT? IS THAT ONE OF YOUR PHOTOS?
VJ: It’s from a stand that was on the street
in New York City. It’s not a photo of me,
or even one of my photos, though I do get
asked that a lot!
PIX: WHAT CAMERAS DO YOU
WORK WITH?
VJ: I work with the Canon EOS-1D
Mark IV, and I shoot with all prime
lenses. I simply couldn’t live without
my Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens.
PIX: WHAT T YPE OF PHOTOGRAPHY DO YOU DO?
VJ: I shoot weddings exclusively, and my Web
site is VanessaJoy.com. My husband
is a wedding cinematographer
( www.robadamsfilms.com), and together we
also teach photographers, hold workshops and
seminars and speak at conventions like WPPI
and Imaging USA.
PIX: DO YOU HAVE A FASHION ICON?
IS THERE A ST YLE YOU ADMIRE?
VJ: There is not a specific person that comes
to mind, though I am a fan of most anything
trendy. In this, and in any business, I think
that your image is really important and how
you look is a reflection of not only your sense
of style but who you are as a business person.
Being presentable and somewhat trendy helps
me relate with and sell to my clients.
